The Chicago Blackhawks came close to taking out the New York Rangers, in New York. The two teams were tied for the majority of the game, but a third period goal from the Rangers gave them the win. The defending Stanley Cup Champs may still be trying to find their stride, but they still hold the lead in the Central Division.

With less than three minutes remaining in the first period, Tomas Kopecky netted his second of the year during a Blackhawks Power Play. Unfortunately, the Rangers answered right back in the remaining 21 seconds of the period. 18 shots were exchanged in the second period, but both goalies were solid in not letting up any goals.

New York took their first lead of the game during the opening minute of the third period, capitalizing on a Power Play of their own. A few minutes later, Patrick Kane tied things up, with an assist from Jonathan Toews. However, only about 30 seconds later, the Rangers took the lead once again. The Blackhawks took 14 shots in that third period, but just couldn’t put another one in.

Marty Turco did well up until the third period. Within the first two periods, he had 16 saves, and only a single allowed goal. The third period consisted of a 1/4 as many saves, and twice as many goals. Regardless, the Hawks’ new goalie still sports a 6-3-1 record.

The Blackhawks’ next match up will be against the New Jersey Devils. That game will take place this Wednesday, November 3, at 7:30 P.M. CT.
