It was very obvious that the Vancouver Canucks wanted revenge on the Chicago Blackhawks, after getting knocked out in the Playoffs last season. Vancouver outshot Chicago, 37-32, playing a very aggressive game. Despite the rivalry, both teams only accumulated eight penalty minutes, each; two of which overlapped. However, in the end, Patrick Kane’s Shoot Out goal, and the Canucks’ miss, gave the Hawks their fourth consecutive win.
Viktor Stalberg had the game’s first goal, very late in the first period. It was his second goal of the season, with Jake Dowell and Jack Skille each getting their second assists. The Hawks held that one goal lead until the opening minute of the third period, when Vancouver capitalized on a Power Play opportunity. With neither team able to put another goal in, the game went into Extra Time.
Ten shots were exchanged in Overtime, but neither team managed to score. The Shoot Out was intense, with the first two shooters from each team making their shots; Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp had the shots for Chicago. Kane made it three good shots for the Hawks, and when the Canuck’s third shooter missed, it was all over for Vancouver.
Marty Turco continues to show why he was a good acquisition. 36 saves for the veteran goalie, eight of which were in Overtime. He has now accumulated four wins as a Blackhawk goalie, only allowing eight goals between those four wins.
The Blackhawks will travel to St. Louis for their next match up, taking on their Division Rivals, the Blues. That game takes place this Friday, October 22, at 7:00 P.M. CT.
