Wow! Marian Hossa and Patrick Sharp are having amazing starts to their seasons. The Chicago Blackhawks were down by two goals late in the third period, until Hossa closed the deficit. Then, Sharp got his third game winner of the season, in Overtime. Chicago now leads the Central Division by two points.
The Blackhawks had many great scoring opportunities in the first two periods, but just couldn’t put anything past the Blues’ goalie. About half way through the second period, St. Louis snuck a puck past Marty Turco. Almost a full period later, the Blues had a 3 on 1 breakaway that resulted in their second goal.
Luckily, the Hawks are not a team that gives up until the final horn. With under seven minutes left in the game, Hossa took advantage of a Power Play opportunity, closing the gap a bit. Less than three minutes later, he pulled out the tying goal that would send the game into Overtime. With barely over a minute remaining in Overtime, Patrick Kane laid a great pass to Sharp on the far side of the net, allowing him to slap in the game winner. Hossa and Sharp currently lead the NHL in goals scored.
Marty Turco had another great game, despite giving up two goals. The first of his goals was a little soft, but the 3 on 1 breakaway left him with little chance for a save. Regardless, Turco walked away with 32 saves, and another win to his record. 7 of those saves were during Overtime.
The Hawks’ next game will be against the Vancouver Canucks this Wednesday, October 20, at 8:00 P.M. CT. This will be their first match up since Chicago kicked them out of the playoffs last season.
