The good news is, the Chicago Blackhawks have regained the top spot in the Central Division; the bad news is, they’ve played at least three more games than every other team in the division. The Hawks now have a record of 7-5-1, only one game back from last season’s 8-4-1, after 13 games. When on the ice, they don’t seem to look as solid as they did last year, but there has been definite improvement from Game 1.
20 shots were exchanged in the first period, but neither team managed to put anything in. The second period almost went the same way, except in the final minute, Troy Brouwer netted his first goal of the season. Then, only a few minutes into the third period, Duncan Keith gave Chicago a two goal lead. With less than six minutes remaining, Minnesota made it only a single goal difference, but Jake Dowell silenced the Wild with his Empty Netter in the final :36 seconds.
Marty Turco didn’t receive a ton of shots from the Wild, but he did great saving the ones that came at him. 25 saves and only a single goal allowed. Turco saw much improvement from the previous game, where he was pulled after giving up four goals.
The Blackhawks will take on the New York Rangers this Monday, November 1, at 6:00 P.M. CT.
