The Chicago Blackhawks came out with a big win against the Columbus Blue Jackets, holding the lead for nearly the entire 60 minutes. Patrick Sharp came close to a hat trick, but just came up short. Regardless, the Hawks got their second win of the season and Marty Turco got his first win in a Hawk’s uniform.

Nearly half way through the first period, Viktor Stalberg put in his first goal of the season, putting Chicago up on the board early. Just over a minute later, Marian Hossa had his fourth goal of the season, continuing his great start. However, the Blue Jackets managed to get their first goal early in the second period, capitalizing on a Short Handed opportunity.

Only up by a single goal, Chicago needed momentum. That momentum came in the form of Sharp’s Short Handed goal on Columbus, off an assist from Jake Dowell. About two minutes later, the Blackhawks took a two goal lead again, compliments of Sharp. Only 15 seconds into the third period, Tomas Kopecky netted his first of the season, extending the gap even further. Before the game could come to an end, Columbus put in a second goal, but they never came close to catching up with the Hawks.

Turco played a great game, making 30 saves against the Blue Jackets. There have been worries about the Hawks’ new goalminder, but if he can continue playing games like this, there shouldn’t be any worries about the season.

The Blackhawks have a rematch against the Buffalo Sabres, only about a week after their last appearance. That game takes place Tonight, October 16, at 7:30 P.M. CT.
