It’s no doubt this new Chicago Blackhawks team needs a little work, but it doesn’t seem like anything that can’t be fixed with a little more time and practice. The Hawks nearly took the Predators in their first match since last season’s Stanley Cup Playoffs, but two third period goals resulted in Chicago’s second loss of the season.
Less than five minutes into the game, Patrick Kane took advantage of a Power Play, netting his second goal of the season. Unfortunately, Nashville answered right back less than two minutes later. Before the opening period could come to an end, Jonathan Toews put in his first goal of the season, giving Chicago the lead, once again.
18 shots were exchanged in the second period, but neither team managed to score, leaving the Hawks still ahead. Less than five minutes into the third period, the Predators tied things up again, making it anyone’s game. Chicago did not get many shots in the third period, and when Nick Boynton received a Delay of Game penalty in the final two minutes of the game, that just set up Nashville to put it away with a Power Play goal.
Corey Crawford got his second consecutive start in the net, coming off the win against the Buffalo Sabres. Once again, Crawford gave up a fairly early goal, but then he managed to hold out all the way to the third period before giving up the second goal. He made 24 saves against Nashville.
The Hawks next game will be against a Division Rival. This Friday, October 15, Chicago will face the Columbus Blue Jackets, at 6:00 P.M. CT.
