Game 3 was filled with a lot of milestones for the season. First off, it was the Chicago Blackhawk’s first win of the season, bringing their record to 1-1-1. Then, of course, Patrick Kane’s first goal of the season, and Nick Leddy’s first NHL goal. To top that off, Corey Crawford got his first start of the season, and his second NHL win.
The Blackhawks started the night off on the wrong foot, giving up two goals to Buffalo within the first three minutes. Luckily, a Power Play goal by Kane helped close the gap. Kane netted his first season goal since putting in the Stanley Cup Winner from last season; once again, his family and friends were present to oversee the moment.
Early in the second period, 19-year old Defenseman, Nick Leddy, tied things up with assists going to Nick Boynton and Tomas Kopecky. Right before the period could expire, Marian Hossa put in his second goal of the season, followed by his third goal, early in the third period. The Sabres answered back quickly with a third goal, but came up short at the final horn.
Crawford made 32 saves against the Sabres, only giving up three goals. Things looked bleak after he gave up two goals in the opening three minutes, but he stuck it out and came through as the victor. US Olympic goalie, Ryan Miller, had five less shots against him, but gave up one extra goal.
The Blackhawks will try to continue adding to the W column this Wednesday, October 13, as they take on the Nashville Predators for the first time since knocking them out of the Playoffs last season. The game will take place at 7:30 P.M. CT.
