The way this game began, it looked like the Chicago Blackhawks were going to suffer another embarrassing defeat by the Vancouver Canucks, in Chicago. Vancouver took an early two goal lead, and the Hawks just looked lifeless out there. Luckily, about half way through the first period, Chicago woke up and picked up their game. A last minute goal from Kris Versteeg put the Hawks ahead, and a final Empty Netter from Patrick Kane sealed the series tie.
It only took the Canucks 1:22 to score, followed by their second goal in the fifth minute, during a Power Play. It looked dismal for the Hawks until Brent Seabrook gave Chicago their first goal of the game, in the seventh minute. For nearly 40 minutes after, the game remained scoreless, despite both teams having great efforts.
Nearly seven minutes into the third period, Patrick Sharp backhanded in an amazing, Short Handed goal. This goal, assisted from Seabrook, tied the game up, and increased the Hawks momentum. As the time ran out, it appeared this one might need to be decided in Overtime; but, with a minute and a half left on the clock, Versteeg received a beautiful pass from Duncan Keith, and smashed in the game winner. Vancouver did not shut down until Kane slid in an Empty Netter in the final minute.
Antti Niemi started out with a tough time, but after giving up that second goal, he was solid on his game. The young goalie had 24 saves, putting up his fifth Playoff Win.
Game 3 between these teams will take place in Vancouver, this Wednesday, May 5. The puck will drop at 8:30 P.M. CT.
