What a HUGE Win for the Chicago Blachkhawks! The young team has pulled out their fourth consecutive win, and is now 3-0 in the series against the San Jose Sharks. The Sharks, who came out of the Regular Season as the Number One team, may get swept if they cannot pull it together for Game 4. Despite tying this game up in the final minutes of regulation, the Sharks couldn’t stop Dustin Byfuglien from putting in the game winner.
22 shots were exchanged in an intense first period, but neither team was able to put anything in. Then, nearly four minutes into the second period, San Jose put in the opening goal during a 3 on 5 Power Play. Patrick Sharp answered right back about three minutes later with a Power Play goal for Chicago. Jonathan Toews assisted in the goal with a spectacular pass in front of the net, making it his 12th straight Playoff game with at least one point; this surpassed the 11 game record, previously held by Stan Mikita.
The score remained tied until the 13th minute of the third period when Dave Bolland had, what could have been, the game winning goal. Unfortunately, with under five minutes remaining, the Sharks tied the score up again, sending the game into Overtime. In Extra Time, the Hawks out shot the Sharks 11-5, finally getting the game winning goal in the 12th minute. Dave Bolland gave a great pass from behind the net, and Byfuglien came flying up to smash it in.
Antti Niemi had another stellar game, holding the Sharks to two or less goals for a third consecutive game. 44 saves and an eleventh playoff win for the young goalie, added on to his already impressive resume.
The Hawks are only one game away from sweeping the Sharks, and only five games out from hoisting the Cup. Game 4 will take place this Sunday, May 23, at 2:00 P.M. CT.
