2009 was filled with some exciting moments in Chicago sports, along with some disappointing ones. Taking into consideration the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Bears, Chicago Blackhawks, and Chicago Bulls, which Chicago Athlete deserves to be called the MVP of 2009? And More Importantly, WHY?
Also, You DO NOT have to pick one of the Athletes below

D-Lee handsdown. He carried the team all season.
I love Lee, Soriano, Theriot, heck I love them all. However, I feel that Fukudome was the MVP for them. So consistent, all year.
Not an athlete but I vote Coach Q. Led the Blackhawks to the Western Conference Final and has a very different Hawks team poised to make a run in 09-10 as well.
Coach Q! That’s a nice one! Let’s see where we stand in June, when the winner of the Cup is decided.
Coach Q is very Ditka-esque, isn’t he? A no nonsense kind of guy who gets fired up.
Let me start by saying I’m a huge Cubs fan. It should then go without saying that I hate the Chicago White Sox. So…. as much as I don’t want to admit this; Mark Buehrle has the be the Chicago MVP for 2009. Had the Blackhawks gone to the cup, or had the Cubs won the pennant, or had the Bulls beat the Celtics, I’d have an excuse to make a different pick. But a perfect game comes around once in a lifetime for a very very elite group of pitchers; and as much as I hate the Sox, any true baseball fan can recognize how historic that event was. Odds are, my grand-children’s grand-children will someday watch a replay of that game on MLB Network, and I don’t think that can be said for any other Chicago athlete or team of 2009. So today, I swallow my North Side Pride; and tip my hat to a lowly South Sider. Congratulations Mark Buehrle, you deserve it.
Mark Buehrle is an excellent choice. Yes, we’re Cubs fans, but you have to admit that he is one hell of a pitcher.
The no hitters, including the perfect game, are spectacular achievements, plus he’s got a World Series ring.
And to top it off, he makes an unbelievable play on 2010′s opening day in addition to blanking Cleveland.
I’m going with Martin Havlat. Besides being the Hawks’ MVP, he set a new career high with 77 points, got 15 in the playoffs and helped spark a new life with a hockey team that had been dormant for 7 years.
Martin Havlat had a great playoff run with the Blackhawks last year, but MVP material?
Hmmm…
D Lee!! He is the calm in the storm of last yr and tried to carry so much weight on his shoulders by performing which I can say many others did not. He is excellent defensively and offensively. More than I can say about others on the team. I love the CUBS but many times it was brutal to watch-some could not even do the simplest things as catch a ball over and over.
Derrick Rose for bring exciting basketball back to Chicago.
I think so far, you’ve got to have the best choice.
Where would the Bulls be without Derrick Rose? Isn’t that the definition of MVP?
There are only a few players who are in that same category – Buehrle is the other one. Patrick Kane is another, but he has a stellar team playing with him, so his MVP status might be diminished a bit.
There are a couple more players that might be worthy of the MVP status, and one isn’t so obvious.
Derrek Lee deserves to be the 2009 Chicago MVP because he consistently performed for the Cubs!
I think patrick kane b/c he can carry a team. Plus he can make get goals very well in hard times when the hawks are down.
patrick kane b/c he can do well when the hawks are down.
Fukudome deserves MVP…he is a good player but overrated but still a good player none the less
Jonathan Toews. He was the new captain of the resurgent Blackhawks, lead the team in goals last season, and was 3rd in playoff points.
