The Chicago Blackhawks played a Great Game 4 against the Nashville Predators, grabbing their second Shut Out of the series! The return of Brian Campbell really helped on the defense, and the addition of Bryan Bickell helped up front; Bickell had an assist in the second goal. This win was Huge for the Hawks because it tied up the series, and now the two teams return to Chicago to play Game 5. If Chicago can win that game, the Predators’ only hope of advancing will be to win two consecutive games, one of them being in Chicago.
It was a spectacular day for Patrick Sharp, grabbing two goals in the game. Nearly 11 minutes into the game, Sharp had the opening goal during a Power Play. Chicago held the one goal lead until the 13th minute of the second period, when Jonathan Toews scored off an assist from Marian Hossa. About three minutes later, Sharp got his second goal, allowing the Hawks some breathing room.
Antti Niemi is now 2-2 in his NHL Playoff Career, and both of those wins have been Shut Outs. According to ESPN Chicago, “he became the first Hawks goaltender since Tony Esposito in 1974 to record two shutouts in one postseason series.” Very impressive! Especially for a goaltender that entered the season as a backup. Niemi made 33 saves in Game 4.
Game 5 will take place this Saturday, April 24, at 2:00 P.M. CT.
