The Chicago Cubs went back and forth with the Atlanta Braves during the first several innings, on Opening Day.  A Home Run from Marlon Byrd in the first inning gave Chicago an early lead, but a good bottom of the inning by the Braves put the Cubs a few runs behind.   Aramis Ramirez’s Home Run in the third inning put the Cubs only three runs behind, but Chicago couldn’t manage to get any more runs up on board during the rest of the game.  Other than the two Home Run hitters, Kosuke Fukudome had one of the best games on the team, getting two hits and scoring two of the runs.

On the Mound:

Carlos Zambrano started the Cubs season, getting off to a rough start.  Big Z was only in for 1.1 innings, giving up six hits and eight runs.  No reason to worry though, because it’s only the first game.  Sean Marshall put up a great 2.2 innings, striking out five batters and giving up no hits.  Jeff Samardzija also had a tough opening game, giving up six of the remaining runs, while Justin Berg gave up the final two.

Looking at the score, it would seem like the Cubs didn’t put up much of a fight.  However, it was a pretty exciting game up until the final innings when Atlanta took the big lead.  Chicago will get a second chance Tomorrow, March 7, at 6:10 P.M. CT.
