The Chicago Cubs improved with each game of the series with the Atlanta Braves: the first loss was a slaughter, followed by a mere one run loss, and then putting up a win with no allowed runs.  The Cubs ended their opening series with the Braves 1-2.  Homers from Marlon Byrd and Tyler Colvin gave the Cubs their only two runs, but that was all that was necessary to put the Braves away, thanks to stellar pitching jobs.

Byrd has already accumulated two Home Runs in the first three games of the season; the newly acquired Cub seems to be working in nicely with the team.  Other than the two Home Run hitters, the only other Cubs players to get a hit in the game were Derrek Lee and Koyie Hill.

On the Mound:

Randy Wells pitched a great first game of the season, only giving up six hits during his six innings in and striking out a batter.  Carlos Marmol deserves a lot of credit, too, for closing out the game.  In for a little over an inning, Marmol gave up a single hit, but struck out two batters.

The Cubs can hopefully take this win and pull out a better series record against the Cincinnati Reds.  Their series begins Today, April 9, at 6:10 P.M. CT.
