With about two and half weeks still left until the start of the Regular Season, Lou Piniella says that he has not finalized his plans yet; however, the Chicago Tribune quoted Lou before yesterday’s Spring Training game against the Colorado Rockies, saying, “I would say it would be Theriot,” in regards to the new Leadoff Hitter.
Ryan Theriot, who lost his arbitration case against the Chicago Cubs a few weeks ago, is very pleased with this decision. The spotlight that once used to shine on him has recently been pulled away to focus more on 19-year-old rookie shortstop, Starlin Castro.
To the relief of many Cubs fans, the announcement that Alfonso Soriano would no longer be the Lead Off man came towards the middle of last season. As mentioned, no plans are finalized quite yet, but the Tribune reports that the rest of the lineup is likely to look like this: “Kosukue Fukudome, Derrek Lee, Aramis Ramirez, Marlon Byrd, Alfonso Soriano, Mike Fontenot, and Geovany Soto, and the pitcher.”
