Although this time around didn’t turn out quite as bad as the last game, the Chicago Blackhawks still were unable to take out the Columbus Blue Jackets. Even with the home ice advantage this time, Chicago trailed Columbus for the majority of the game, making a slight comeback in the final minutes of the game. These unusually poor performances from the Hawks has left the fans wondering what will come about in the Playoffs.
Unlike the last game, Chicago took the first lead with a goal from Dave Bolland nearly nine minutes into the game. Despite missing a good portion of the season, due to injury, this was Bolland’s fifth goal. Unfortunately, that lead was short lived, because about two minutes later, the Blue Jackets tied the game up. It was a 1-1 game up until the 13th minute of the second period, when Columbus took their first lead of the game, followed another goal in the final seconds of the period. Patrick Sharp had a great Short Handed goal late in the third period, but Chicago just couldn’t tie up the game before the time expired. Columbus put this game away with a final Empty Net goal.
Antti Niemi started in the net this time around, but even he had some trouble with the Blue Jackets. Niemi gave up three goals from only 19 shots. Some of the recent performances from the Blackhawk’s two goal keepers have left Hawks fans a little worried about the Post Season. Hopefully, the whole team can step up their game and finish out this season with a Cup in hand.
The Blackhawks next game will be against the St. Louis Blues this Tuesday, March 30, at 7:00 P.M. CT.
