The Chicago Blackhawks and the Vancouver Canucks got into it right from the start of the game, delaying the game several times due to scruffs. Luckily, the Blackhawks emerged with a big lead after the first period, only giving up a single goal. Jordan Hendry got his first goal of the season, meaning every single player on the Active Roster, who isn’t injured or a goalie, has had a goal this season. Chicago continues to lead the Central Division with a huge 16 point game; they are also tied with the San Jose Sharks for most points in the Western Conference.
Andrew Ladd put in the first Hawks goal during the opening 3:48, assisted by Dustin Byfuglien. A little over half way through the period, Duncan Keith got his 12th goal of the season during a Power Play. Less than a minute later, Troy Brouwer gave Chicago a three goal lead over Vancouver. With under six minutes remaining in the first period, the Canucks closed the gap a little with their first goal, but Kris Versteeg widened it right back up about a minute later, making the score 4-1. With under a minute remaining in the first period, Hendry nabbed his first goal of the season, assisted by Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane.
The Canucks, who were trailing by four goals going into the second period, got their second goal during the opening two minutes. The only other period to score in the second period was Marian Hossa, grabbing his 19th goal of the season. The Blackhawks almost held the Canucks to only two goals, but with under three minutes remaining, Vancouver put in their third and final goal.
Cristobal Huet played a great game, making 20 saves and only giving up three goals, one of which was in the final minutes when the Hawks were already way up. A couple of big diving saves by Huet prevented any mishaps earlier on.
The Blackhawks have a big game this Sunday, March 7, against the Detroit Red Wings. Chicago is currently 3-1 in their match ups with Detroit. The game will be on at 11:30 A.M. CT.
