The Chicago Blackhawks got a lucky break early in the game, when the Washington Capitals lost their Captain, Alexander Ovechkin, due to miscounduct.  Unfortuantely, the Blackhawks gave up a three goal lead and then lost the game to an Overtime goal.  Despite the loss, Chicago still walked away with a point.

Seven minutes into the game, Jonathan Toews gave Chicago the opening goal, followed by a second goal in the final minutes of the period, during a Power Play.  Then, less than seven minutes into the second period, John Madden had his tenth goal of the season off of Duncan Keith’s 48th assist.  The Blackhawks held the three goal lead until the fifth minute of the third period, when the Capitals put in a Power Play goal.  Two, back-to-back goals in the seventh minute tied the score up, and ended up sending the game into Overtime.  With under two minutes remaining in Extra Time, the Captials put the game winning goal in.

Antti Niemi took control between the poles, shutting out the Captials during the first two periods.  Unfortunately, the three goals in Regulation Time, and the fourth during Overtime, gave Niemi his second loss, of the season, in Extra Time; he had 26 saves in the game.

The Blackhawks will get a couple of nights off before taking on the Anaheim Ducks this Wednesday, March 17, at 9:00 P.M. CT.
