The USA is off to a good start in the 2010 Winter Olympics, defeating Switzerland 3-1 in the Opening game for Men’s Hockey. The USA took a three goal lead before the Swiss had a chance to get up on the board, half way through the third period. Patrick Kane, the only Chicago Blackhawks representative on the U.S. team, had four shots, but no goals or assists.
In the final 1:01 of the first period, Bobby Ryan, from the Anaheim Ducks, put in the first U.S. goal. Less than six minutes into the second period, David Backes, from the St. Louis Blues, netted a second goal. The third, and final, U.S. goal came from Ryan Malone, who is part of the Tampa Bay Lightning organization. With a little over ten minutes remaining in the game, Switzerland put in their first goal, but they just couldn’t come back from the deficit.
Team USA will play their next game Tomorrow, February 18, at 2:00 P.M. CT. They will be taking on Norway, who just suffered a 0-8 loss from Team Canada.
