The USA and Canada are now the only two teams in Group A to have two wins on their record; Canada is Team USA’s last opponent in the preliminary round. The U.S.’s win against Norway on Thursday night was even greater than their win against Switzerland two days earlier. Norway managed to get a single goal in the second period, but it wasn’t enough. Patrick Kane even managed to get a goal in this game. Between these two games, the US has only allowed two goals against them.
Less than three minutes into this game, Phil Kessel, part of the Toronto Maple Leaf’s squad, put in the opening goal. About ten minutes later, New York Ranger’s Forward, Chris Drury, gave the US a two goal lead. The third goal, less than six minutes into the second period, belonged to Kane, who was held to only a couple shots in the team’s opening game. Surprisingly enough, Norway’s only goal came Short Handed, about half way through the second period.
With under six minutes left in the third period, Ryan Malone made it a three goal lead for the US, again; Malone had a goal in the opening game, too. Team USA already had enough of a lead to put this game away, but they managed to get two more before the time expired. Brian Rafalski had back-to-back goals in the final three minutes of play.
Team USA will play their big game against Team Canada this Sunday, February 21, at 6:40 P.M. CT.
