After the Chicago Blackhawks acquired Marian Hossa from the Red Wings, they decided to get rid of Marty Havlat; what a great move that has turned out to be. Tuesday night, the two players met up for the first time since signing with their current teams. Hossa helped lead the Chicago Blackhawks to a 4-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild.
Nearly 14 minutes into the game, the Wild put in the opening goal. Luckily, they didn’t hold the lead long, because about four minutes later, John Madden tied the game up with an assist from Kris Versteeg. A little over half way through the second period, Hossa put in the Hawks second goal, giving them the lead.
Early in the third period, Patrick Kane made it a two goal lead during a Power Play. Kane is gunning for that Art Ross Trophy, grabbing 15 points in his last 9 games. He currently sits at 49 total points, tied for fifth with Sidney Crosby, and only nine points away from the number one spot! With a little under 11 minutes left in the game, Hossa put in his second goal, giving him ten for the season. He is a quarter of the way to tying his record last season.
Cristobal Huet had a great game, saving 19 shots and only giving up a single goal. Almost two goals, but the second was kicked in. Despite the criticism that Huet received at the beginning of the season, and still receives from time to time, he has given up the least amount of goals for a goalie that has played in 28 or more games.
The Blackhawks next game will be Thursday, January 7, at 6:00 P.M. CT. They will be taking on this years Winter Classic Champs, the Boston Bruins.
