Chicago Blackhawks Start Off Road Trip With a Win

The Chicago Blackhawks were not able to shut the Columbus Blue Jackets out like the previous game, but they still managed to grab the win. It was a very eventful game, coming down to the final minutes. Jonathan Toews had the game winning goal during the 15th minute of the third period. Chicago is off to a good start on their Road Trip.

It took Chicago about a minute and a half longer to score this time around, putting in their first goal two and a half minutes into the game. Andrew Ladd put the Blackhawks on the board with an assist from Patrick Sharp. About five minutes later, Troy Brouwer took a perfect pass from Patrick Kane, making it a two goal lead. Unfortunately, during the 11th minute, Columbus stole away the possible Shut Out. Less than a minute later, Marian Hossa got his twelfth goal of the season. The Blue Jackets made it a one goal difference, once again, in the final two minutes of the period.

Early in the second period, Columbus put back to back goals in. With those goals, they took the lead for the first time in the game. Early in the third period, Toews tied the game with a Power Play goal. Four minutes later, Ben Eager took a great pass from Colin Fraser and gave Chicago the lead again. With under five minutes left in the game, Toews had his second Power Play goal of the game, giving the Hawks a little breathing room. Columbus was able to put a final goal in before the time expired, but it didn’t make a difference.

Cristobal Huet didn’t have as great a game this time. He only had 19 saves and gave up five goals, but he still managed to add another win to his record.

The Blackhawks will play their next game of the Road Trip Tomorrow, January 17, at 11:30 A.M. CT. They will be taking on their long time rivals, the Detroit Red Wings.
