The Chicago Blackhawks continue to go undefeated against the Calgary Flames, putting up their third win on Thursday night. Chicago is now 3-1, at the half way point of their Road Trip, and leading the Central Division by 13 points! If the Blackhawks can keep this up, they’ll clinch the playoffs way before the end of the regular season.
Nearly eight minutes into the game, Patrick Kane was hooked on his break away and awarded a Penalty Shot. Despite a good effort, he was unable to put the shot in; luckily, he still managed to get the opening goal of the game. More than a full period later, in the ninth minute of the second period, Kane took advantage of the Hawks Power Play, putting in a pass from Jonathan Toews. Before the period could draw to an end, the Flames tied the game up with a Power Play of their own.
In the opening minutes of the third period, Ben Eager had his fifth goal of the season, putting Chicago ahead. 13 shots were exchanged in this final period, but the only other goal of the period belonged to Duncan Keith, who put it into an Empty Net. While Kane is slowly falling behind in the race for the Art Ross Trophy, Keith is still a top contender for the Norris Trophy.
Antti Niemi graced the goal for the 17th time this season, grabbing his 13th win. Despite only receiving 20 total shots all game, he did a great job saving 19 of them. The only goal he gave up was during a Calgary Power Play. Niemi is really trying to prove to Coach Q why he deserves to be the number one goalie.
The Blackhawks fifth game of the Road Trip will take place this Saturday, January 23, at 9:00 P.M. CT. They will be taking on the Vancouver Canucks; another team they took down in the playoffs last season.
