The Chicago Blackhawks ended 2009 defeating one of the best teams in the NHL! Thursday night, the Blackhawks nearly shut out the New Jersey Devils, putting them three games ahead of the Nashville Predators.
Nearly 15 minutes into the game, Troy Brouwer put in the first Hawks goal during a Power Play, giving him his tenth of the season. Less than two minutes later, Ben Eager made it a two goal lead with an assist from Colin Fraser. Andrew Ladd had the only goal of the second period, putting it in during the first two minutes.
Chicago continued to dominate in the third period, putting in their first goal during the opening five minutes. Jonathan Toews had the unassisted goal, giving him his 12th of the season. With under five minutes left in the game, John Madden grabbed his eighth goal of the season off an assist from Dustin Byfuglien. Cristobal Huet nearly had another shut out, but with about a minute and a half to play, New Jersey put in their first and only goal of the game.
Huet, coming off his tough game against the Dallas Stars, put up a great performance against the Devils. He was only a minute and a half away from adding another Shut Out to his record, New Jersey put one goal past him. Huet had 26 saves, bringing his Save Percentage back up to 91.2%.
The Blackhawks next game will be against the St. Louis Blues this Saturday, January 2, at 7:00 P.M. CT.
