The Chicago Blackhawks are now 4-2 on their Road Trip, after defeating the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night. Chicago put all four of their goals in early, giving them a lofty advantage; however, the Oilers began to close the gap later in the game. Luckily, they fell short, and the Blackhawks extended their season record to 36-13-4.

It only took Jonathan Toews 44 seconds to put the Hawks on the board, sinking Chicago’s first shot of the game off a great pass from Patrick Kane. The Blackhawks had ten more shots in the period, but weren’t able to put in another goal until the fifth minute of the second period. Troy Brouwer had his 15th goal of the season off another assist from Kane. Less than five minutes after that, Dustin Byfuglien had his first point in the last six games, after redirecting in Duncan Keith’s long shot. With about six minutes left in the period, Marian Hossa made it a four goal lead during a Power Play, smashing in a puck that just seemed to slide out from a mess of traffic.

It was looking like the Blackhawks might be able to Shut Out the Oilers, but with less than a minute left in the second period, Edmonton put in their first goal. During the opening six minutes of the third period, the Oilers made it only a two goal lead for the Hawks after stealing the puck from a bad pass. There were some worries that there would be a repeat of the Minnesota Wild game when the Hawks gave up a big lead and lost the game in the Shoot Out; luckily, that was not the case this time.

Cristobal Huet got his first start in a week and ended up pulling out his 23rd win of the season. Huet had 22 saves and only gave up two goals; one of those saves was a huge diving save in the final minute of the game.

The Blackhawks’ second to last game of the Road Trip will be a grudge match between the Hawks and San Jose Sharks. The last time these two teams faced off in San Jose, the Sharks, who held the highest points in the NHL at that time, were embarrassed in a 7-2 loss. The Sharks, once again, hold the highest points in the NHL, and Chicago will be returning to defeat them again. The game will take place this Thursday, January 28, at 9:30 P.M. CT.
