The Chicago Blackhawks just keep building up that win column, going 8-2 in their last ten games. The Blackhawk’s 5-2 defeat of the Anaheim Ducks, on Sunday night, gave the team three consecutive wins with a three or more point differential. Chicago is now four games ahead of the Nashville Predators, both having played an equal amount of games.
Despite a combined total of 21 shots in the first period, neither team was able to put anything in; this was the first time, in the last six games, that the Blackhawks haven’t put a goal in during the first period. Only six minutes into the second period, Kris Versteeg had a great goal off a pass from John Madden. Before the second period came to an end, Troy Brouwer grabbed his 11th goal of the season off an assist from Patrick Kane.
Early in the third period, Marian Hossa had back to back goals, to give the Hawks a 4-0 lead on the Ducks. Hossa now has eight goals for the season, despite missing the first half of it; he is 1/5 of the way to tying his record from last season. During the 13th minute of the third period, Jonathan Toews gave the Blackhawks another goal, with another assist for Kane. Kane is currently ranked sixth in the NHL for points, only nine points away from the Number 1 spot.
Before the time could expire, Anaheim managed to put two, back to back goals past Antti Niemi. Both goals were scored by the same Duck’s player, assisted by the same two guys, in the same order. Niemi walked away with 22 saves and his tenth win, making his record 10-2-1.
The Blackhawks get a night off before taking on the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday, January 5, at 7:00 P.M. CT.
