Will Today Be the Day Bradley is Gone?

Written by: EricC on 11th December 2009

News on Milton Bradley has become the Cub fans’ version of what a Snow Day is for children. For the past week, countless articles have had the headline of “Bradley Still a Cub,” or some variation. It makes me chuckle to think of Cubs fans waking up every morning, running downstairs to their computer, and scouring the web for any news of a Bradley Trade. Regardless of if you want Bradley gone or if you’re part of the handful of people that want to see him in a Cubbie uniform next season, the humor should still be apparent.

There were hopes that Jim Hendry would be able to dump Bradley yesterday at the winter meetings, in Indianapolis. However, by the end of the day, the outfielder was still part of the Cub’s roster.

The Tampa Bay Rays still appear to be the most interested team. According to the Chicago Sun Times, the Cubs would need to “take [Pat] Burrell’s final year off their hands and pick up most of Bradley’s 2011 money.” Hendry claims there is no rush at the moment, but each day draws a little closer to the 2010 season.

Needless to say, this whole situation has already received a place in Cubs History. It’ll be interesting to see how the end of this story turns out.

I’m one of that handful, Eric.

Everything in life has a narrative, and most of them are common, if not mundane. Many go through life as ordinary people do.

But Milton Bradley has the incredibly unique opportunity to write a narrative that is inspiring and special. He can pick himself up by the bootstraps and create a story that could that would live forever in history.

Do I think the chances of this happening are good? No.

But it would be one hell of a story.
