It’s been over 13 years since Andre Dawson played in the MLB…but he still isn’t in the Hall of Fame yet…
Well, this might finally be the year. Dawson is going up against 25 other candidates, but he is one of the top selections. Dawson, well respected amongst Chicago Cubs fans, played in Chicago from 1987-1992, after leaving the Montreal Expos. As the story goes, Dawson and his agent begged the Cubs General Manager at the time, Dallas Green, to sign him, even showing up at Spring Training to make a plea. Dawson took a pay cut to finally get Green to sign him.
Dawson has won many awards during his time in the MLB, including NL Rookie of the Year in 1977. His first season with the Cubs, he went on to win the NL MVP. Two of his eight Golden Glove awards were during his time in Chicago, along with one of his four Silver Slugger awards.
The results will be announced January 6, with the Hall of Fame ceremonies taking place on July 25. All we can really do is sit back and hope that one of baseball’s greats finally gets his spot in the Hall of Fame.
