Blackhawks Can’t Hold Back the Angry Sharks

After being embarrassed by the Chicago Blackhawks in their 7-2 loss, about a month ago, the San Jose Sharks were determined to get revenge. Adding a Short Handed goal into their score, they managed to defeat the Hawks, but not in the fashion that they lost previously. Despite the loss, Marian Hossa, who debuted against the Sharks with two goals in their previous match-up, still managed to grab a goal in this game. The Blackhawks were sporting their New Third Jerseys, bringing back memories of the Winter Classic, which occurred almost a year ago.

San Jose used their anger as momentum, grabbing their first goal in the opening three minutes of play. The Hawks stepped it up and held them off for the rest of the period, but five minutes into the second period, the Sharks intercepted a pass and got a Short Handed goal. Just as a side note, the last time the Hawks played the Sharks, Chicago captured THREE Short Handed goals.

The Blackhawks finally got on the board in the third period; Hossa came around the back of the net, giving a quick pass to Patrick Kane, who was able to put it in. Kane got his 11th goal of the season; only 14 goals away from his record last season. Chicago’s goal must have, once again, enraged San Jose, because they put in their third goal only 20 seconds later. With less than two minutes left in the game, Kane returned the favor with a pass to Hossa, who put the puck through a tiny opening between the goalie and the pole. The Blackhawks tried to get one more in before the end of the game, but just couldn’t tie it up.

Cristobal Huet, coming off of two back-to-back Shut Outs, just couldn’t hold off the Sharks shots. The ratios were very unbalanced in this game, with the Sharks only taking 14 shots, but putting three of them in, while the Blackhawks took 47 shots, putting only two of them in.

The Blackhawks play again, Tonight, December 23, against the Red Wings. These two currently have a split record after the Blackhawks win, Sunday night. The puck will drop at 6:30 P.M. CT.
