The Chicago Blackhawks managed to take down another Atlantic Division team on Wednesday night, in their 2-1 Over Time win against the New York Rangers. This was the only match up between these two teams this year, unless they meet up in the Stanley Cup. Despite being a low scoring game, it was loaded with shots. The Blackhawks had 41 shots, combined with an additional 18 more coming from the Rangers.

The Rangers put in a goal about half way through the first period, holding that lead almost until the end of the game. Luckily, with less than six minutes left to play, Jonathan Toews took advantage of a Power Play and put in the tying goal for Chicago. Toews scored his eighth goal of the season while playing on the Hossa/Kane line; arguably, the Blackhawks strongest line. The Hawks had several opportunities at Power Play goals earlier in the game, but did not capitalize on it until Toews goal.

With about a minute and fifteen seconds left before going to a Shoot Out, Dustin Byfuglien had a break away, skating past two Ranger’s and putting in the game winning goal. The Blackhawks continue to lead the Central Division with 41 points, five points ahead of the trailing Nashville Predators.

Cristobal Huet was back between the poles for this game, taking the night off in Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Huet gave up one goal the whole night, but managed to save 17 shots for the night. The Blackhawks held the Rangers to only one shot in the third period.

The Blackhawks will travel to Patrick Kane’s hometown of Buffalo to take on the Sabres this Friday, December 11. The puck will drop at 6:30 P.M. CT.
