The Chicago Blackhawks are now on an eight game winning streak after creaming the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday night. There was a lot of excitement building for this match up. The Blackhawks were on a seven game winning streak, along with leading the Central Division. The Sharks were leading the NHL in points and had not lost a Home Game in Regular Time. Most importantly, the debut of Veteran, Marian Hossa to the Blackhawks squad. Everyone knew about Hossa’s skill from the past, but there was uncertainty about how he would jell with the young Chicago roster. Once he actually got out there, it looked like he had been playing with these guys for years, and he had no trouble sinking two goals in himself.

It looked like it was going to be a close game until Troy Brouwer gave the Hawks a short handed goal in the final minutes of the first period. Only 13 shots had been exchanged between the teams in the first period, but that would soon change.

Barely under five minutes into the second period, Marian Hossa had his first goal as a Blackhawk! To make the matter even better, it was Chicago’s second short handed goal of the evening. Thirty seconds later, with San Jose still on the Power Play, Patrick Sharp added another short handed goal, during his breakaway. Then, about half way through the period, Cam Barker took a shot from a distance, which ended up in front of the goalie, and Dustin Byfuglien, who was standing at the post, knocked it in. The NHL’s leading team was now down 4-0.

It just continued to get better in the third period. Five minutes into the period, Brent Seabrook made it a five goal difference, with an assist coming from Duncan Keith. Exactly a minute later, Hossa had his second goal of the game, and second goal of his Blackhawks career. John Madden gave Chicago their seventh, and final, goal of the game, with a little more than eight minutes to play.

Unfortunately, the Blackhawks didn’t end up shutting out the Sharks. With less than four minutes left in the game, San Jose managed to get a goal, followed by a second one about a minute later. But what did it matter at this point, with about two minutes left on the clock and the Hawks leading by five goals?

Cristobal Huet played an amazing game Friday night, and nearly got the Shut Out. If he had accomplished this, the Blackhawks would have had back-to-back Shuts Outs on their Circus Trip. Huet had a total of 22 saves in the game, giving him his 12th win of the season.

The Blackhawks will play their second to last game of the Circus trip in Anaheim this Friday, November 27. The Ducks are bringing up the rear of their division, so this should give the Blackhawks their ninth consecutive win. The puck will drop at 3:00 P.M. CT.
