If any team could rally back from a 3-0 score, it would be the Chicago Blackhawks; the same team that rallied back from a 5-0 score with the Calgary Flames this season. Unfortunately, this was not the case Thursday night against the Phoenix Coyotes. Chicago, still missing Captain Jonathan Toews, suffered from some defensive mistakes to give the Coyotes an early lead. Toews is, hopefully, expected to start playing again in Friday’s game.
Less than three minutes into the game, Phoenix put one past Cristobal Huet. A few minutes later, Phoenix made a couple of quick moves past the Blackhawks defense and took a two point lead. The two teams went at it scoreless for almost a full period until the Coyotes got their third goal during the second period.
It wasn’t looking so hot for Chicago, who were heading in the direction to get Shutout. Luckily, Kris Versteeg managed to get a shot off a back pass from Patrick Kane. Despite taking 32 shots the entire game, the Blackhawks were only able to put one of those in.
Huet definitely had a tough time in goal, but it’s hard to blame all three goals on him. He managed to make 20 saves bringing his overall save percentage for the 2009 season to 89.5%.
The Blackhawks, coming off a five day rest period, get no rest for Friday’s game with the Colorado Avalanche. The puck is scheduled to drop at 8:00 P.M. CT. Chicago is one of the Top 10 shooting teams and Colorado has one of the best goalies in the NHL, statistically.
