This was the third time the Chicago Blackhawks have faced the Colorado Avalanche this season, and for the third time, the game was decided by a Shoot Out. Thanks to Patrick Sharp, the Blackhawks are now 2-1 against the Avalanche, this season. The Blackhawks will take on the Avalanche one more time this season, in Colorado.

Less than half way through the first period, Colorado put the first goal in. A few minutes later, Patrick Kane had his fifth goal of the season; Jonathan Toews passed it to Sharp, who gave it off to Kane, who put it in from the side of the goal. Toews, Sharp, Kane is such a talented line to have on the ice. In the second period, the Avalanche took the lead again after the Blackhawks turned over the puck.

It was looking like Colorado might end this game in regular time, until Cam Barker basically walked the puck in past the Avalanche’s goalie. The Blackhawks defense held the Avalanche to only three shots in the third period, sending the game into Over Time. Of course, as we’ve seen two other times this season, these teams are too evenly matched to end the game in Over Time. Unlike the previous two Shoot Outs, this one was fairly quick, finished after Patrick Sharp put a goal in during Round 3. Sharp hasn’t had much luck with Shoot Outs this season, but his goal in this game made up for that.

Cristobal Huet, who was being criticized by fans less than a month ago, has really turned things around. He’s stepped up his game and is becoming a powerhouse in between the poles. Huet had 25 saves, not including his saves during the Shoot Out. In fact, in his last five games, he’s saved 108 shots, bringing his season save percentage up to 90.1%.

The Blackhawks are currently 2-0 on their four game homestand, and they’ll need to capture those two final wins before going on their six game Road Trip. Their next Home game will be against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday, November 13, at 7:30 P.M. CT.
