The Chicago Blackhawks are making it look so easy. Now on a six game winning streak, the Blackhawks have won the opening two games of their circus trip. Chicago took down the Edmonton Oilers Saturday night, with one of their five goals coming from Patrick Kane, who has scored in each of the last five games. The Blackhawks continue to lead the Central Division with 30 points.
Jonathan Toews wasted very little time, putting in a goal in the first four minutes of play, off an assist from Kane. However, less than a minute later, Edmonton tied the game up. Kris Versteeg had the next goal, only a couple of minutes later, giving him his seventh goal of the season. He is currently tied for second in Blackhawks goals, with Dustin Byfuglien. A little later, Kane gave the Blackhawks a two goal lead over the Oilers, ending the first period, 3-1.
The second period wasn’t quite as goal oriented, with the only goal coming from John Madden off an assist from Andrew Ladd. However, 21 shots were exchanged between the two teams. In the final second of the period, Edmonton fought for the puck beneath Cristobal Huet’s legs, and it looked like it was going to be another goal. However, after review, it was determined that time had officially run out before the puck crossed the line.
In the opening two minutes of the third period, the Oilers scored their second goal during a Power Play. It remained a two goal game until Toews had his second goal of the game, during the eighth minute. Toews doubled his goals for the season in this game, but has eight assists to add to that record.
Huet, once again, played a great game. Saving 25 shots, he only allowed two goals the whole game, one of which came during an Edmonton Power Play. Huet continues to raise his save percentage, now at 90.9%.
The Blackhawks get no rest, playing the Vancouver Canucks tonight at 9:00 P.M. This will mark the half way point for the teams circus trip, and a seventh consecutive win if they can pull out a victory.
