Tuesday afternoon, MLB owners unanimously approved the sale of the Chicago Cubs to the Ricketts Family. After months of negotiating and waiting, the Ricketts will finally be taking over the Chicago baseball franchise from the bankrupt Tribune, Co. The Associated Press reports that “Tom Ricketts, who has headed the sale for his family, could take day-to-day control of the Cubs by the end of the month.”
The Tribune acquired the Cubs back in 1981 for $20.5 million. The Ricketts family has purchased the Cubs for $845 million.

This is great news!
Hopefully, the new team can get their offseason plans in place and get the wrinkles out of the team.
The team had its troubles this year, but despite everything, they were still in the wild card hunt for quite a while.
I’m already hopeful for 2010, but that goes with the territory of being a Cub fan, I suppose.
