What an exciting Season Opener! Unfortunately, the Chicago Blackhawks did not walk away victorious against the Florida Panthers.

Both teams started the game off with some great shots, but both exited the first period with no points. About five minutes into the second period, Patrick Kane, coming out of the penalty box for Hi-sticking, took a pass from Niklas Hjalmarsson and put it in the back of the net to give the Blackhawks their first goal of the season. About half way through the period, the Panthers tied the game up.

The third period held most of the action. Dustin Byfuglien put an early goal in, but Florida tied it up again a few minutes later. Half way through the period, Patrick Sharp put the Blackhawks in the lead, once again. It looked like the Hawks were going to walk away with the win, but Florida got one more past Cristobal Huet in the final three minutes of play, sending the game into Over Time.

Chicago had five shots during Over Time, but couldn’t put anything past Florida’s goalie, sending the game into a Shoot Out. The Blackhawks just couldn’t finish during the Shoot Out match.

Luckily, the Blackhawks have a chance to rebuttle this loss. They play the Panthers again, tomorrow at 11:00 A.M. CT, for their final game in Finland. This time they will be sporting their Road Jerseys for the first time this season.
