Blackhawks- 2 Red Wings- 3
For the first time since Game 5 of the Playoffs Last Season, the Chicago Blackhawks faced up against the Detroit Red Wings. They played a great game, but the Red Wings took advantage of some Chicago mistakes and walked away with their first win of the season. Patrick Sharp currently leads the team in points with five points after his goal and assist in the game.
There were 19 total shots taken between the two teams in the first period, but neither team was able to put anything in. Patrick Sharp came out early in the second period and gave Chicago a 1-0 lead off a pass from Kris Versteeg. Unfortunately, about half way through the period, a fluke shot hit off a Red Wing skate and slipped past Cristobal Huet, tying the game up. A few minutes later, Detroit put another goal in, followed by a third about two minutes after that.
It didn’t look good for the Blackhawks, but with a little under 10 minutes left to go in the third period, Sharp returned the favor to Versteeg and assisted his goal. There was a hope! Unfortunately, Chicago was unable to put another one in.
Huet had a good first period, saving seven shots. Unfortunately, some errors in the second period gave up three goals to Detroit. He managed to shut them out in the third period, but the offense just couldn’t make up for the deficit. Huet had a total of 20 saves.
The Chicago Blackhawks take on the Colorado Avalanche in the Home Opener this Saturday, October 10 at 7:30 P.M. CT.
