The Chicago Blackhawks really know how to pull out the win under pressure. Only four games into the season, the Blackhawks have already had two Shoot Outs; the first ended unfavorably, but last night’s 9 round Shoot Out ended up in a win for Chicago during their Home Opener.
Late in the first period, Cam Barker took a quick pass from Patrick Sharp and smashed it in with a long shot. However, this little bit of action was only a taste of what was to come in the very eventful second period.
Colorado came back early in the second period, putting in two goals within about three minutes of each other. Down by a goal, Andrew Ladd tied the game up with a tip in off a long shot from John Madden. Before the end of the period, the Avalanche took the lead again, making the score 3-2, but less than a minute later, Duncan Keith takes the rebound off of Kris Versteeg’s shot and tied it up once more.
After a scoreless third period, both teams went into Over Time. With a combined total of two shots taken during Over Time, the game went into a drawn out Shoot Out. In the end, the Blackhawks emerged victorious with the final goal from Andrew Ladd.
Now 2-2, the Blackhawks will take on the Calgary Flames this Monday, October 12 at 7:00 P.M. CT. The Flames are one of the teams the Blackhawks managed to knock out of the playoffs last season.
