Johnny Knox strikes again!
The Chicago Bears rookie receiver struck again, dealing a knockout blow to the Detroit Lions Sunday afternoon at Soldier Field. Knox took the opening kickoff of the second half and sprinted 102 yards for a lightning quick touchdown. It was a demoralizing blow to the energized Lions, who registered their first victory since 2007 last week, and matched the Bears touchdown for touchdown in the first half.
The first half was a see-saw battle, with the Lions’ rookie quarterback, Matt Stafford, leading the Lions up and down the field for three first half touchdowns. Before leaving the game with a knee injury in the second half, Stafford had amassed 296 passing yards, going 24 for 36 with one touchdown pass and one interception.
But football is a team game, and the Bears had more offensive weapons and a sturdier defense. And they had Jay Cutler, Johnny Knox, and Matt Forte. They were more than the Lions could handle.
Cutler went 18 for 28 passing, two for touchdowns, but threw no interceptions. He also ran for one more touchdown. Forte, in his best game of the young season, ripped off long runs of 61 and 37 yards, finishing the game with 121 yards on just 12 carries. His 37 yard blast off left tackle went for a touchdown.
