Chicago Blackhawks Take Loss in Game 1

Written by: EricC on 17th May 2009

The Chicago Blackhawks put up a tough first game against the Detroit Red Wings, but in the end the Red Wings emerged with a victory.  However, the score was tied for most of the game; it wasn't until the third period that Detroit took the final lead.  If the Blackhawks can play like this for the rest of the series, there is a good chance they will emerge Conference Champs.

Chicago started off the scoring with a goal in the first six minutes from Adam Burish.  Only a couple of minutes later, the Red Wings tied the score up.  Late in the second period, the Red Wings put another goal in, but Kris Versteeg tied the game up at 2-2 early in the third period.  A couple of minutes later, Detroit made the game winning goal, and about a minute after that they widened the gap.  The Blackhawks were forced to pull their goalie in the final minute, giving the Red Wings the opportunity to make one more into an empty goal.  The final score was 5-2.

Nikolai Khabibulin did a great job in the net, saving 38 goals.  He proves, once again, why he deserves to be called The Bulin Wall.

The Chicago Blackhawks will play the Detroit Red Wings in Game 2 this Tuesday, May 19 at 6:30 Central Time.  The Blackhawks will play the Red Wings one more time in Detroit before returning to Chicago for two games.
