Chicago Blackhawks One Game Away From Advancing to Third Round

Written by: EricC on 10th May 2009

The Chicago Blackhawks only need to win one more game against the Vancouver Canucks to advance to the third round.  On top of that, they get to play Game 6 back home!  If Chicago cannot pull out a win in Game 6, they will get one more chance in Game 7, but it will have to take place in Canada.  If the Blackhawks advance, they will either play the Detroit Red Wings or the Anaheim Ducks; their series is currently tied at 2-2.

The Blackhawks put in the opening goal for the first time this series, thanks to Dustin Byfuglien.  Less than three minutes later, in the final seconds of the first period, the Canucks tied up the game.  About half way through the second period, Vancouver added another one to take the lead.  Byfuglien came and tied up the game again with his second goal of the game and his third of the playoffs.  The game went tied until about five minutes left in the game when Dave Bolland put in the winning goal.  Marty Havlat added one more to the Blackhawk's score with a shot into an empty net.  The final score ended 4-2.

Nikolai Khabibulin had another successful game guarding the net, only allowing 2 of the 21 shots past him.  The Bulin Wall had a scoreless third period, proving his skill during crucial situations.  The Blackhawks out-shot the Canucks once again with 29 attempts.

Game 6 between the Chicago Blackhawks and Vancouver Canucks will take place this Monday, May 11 at 8:00 Central Time.  This will be the final game to be played in Chicago for this series, and possibly the Canucks last game of the playoffs.
