Chicago Blackhawks Need 3 Consecutive Wins to Stay Alive

Written by: EricC on 24th May 2009

The Chicago Blackhawks have fought hard to get to Round 3 of the 2009 NHL Playoffs, but now they have run into some trouble against the Detroit Red Wings.  After losing Game 4 of the series on Sunday, the Blackhawks have been pushed into a corner.  Their only options are win the next three games, two of which will be in Detroit, or forfeit their Stanley Cup dreams.

The Blackhawks took a tough loss against the Red Wings on Sunday, leaving Chicago in a 6-1 mess.  Between the 8th minute of the first period and the 13th minute of the third period, the Red Wings put in six goals.  In that same amount of time, Jonathan Toews put in a lone goal for the Blackhawks.

The Blackhawk's secondary goalie, Cristobal Huet, had some trouble against the Red Wings, letting five of the six goals go by.  Huet replaced Nikolai Khabibulin after he was injured in Friday's game.  The Blackhawks even resorted to putting in Corey Crawford for a short time in the second period, where he gave up one goal.  This goalie situation might be a large issue of whether the Blackhawks stay in the playoffs or not.

Game 5 between the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings will take place this Wednesday, May 27 at 6:30 Central Time.  The Blackhawks will be back in Detroit for this game, but if they can pull off a win they will return back to Chicago for the following game.
