Chicago Blackhawks Come Close to a Win In Over Time

Written by: EricC on 19th May 2009

The Chicago Blackhawks almost pulled out a win in Game 2 against the Detroit Red Wings, but fell to an Over Time goal from the Red Wings.  However, this game was much closer than Game 1.  Now the Blackhawks get to return back to Chicago to play the Red Wings for two games.  It is crucial that the Blackhawks win these next two games.

Once again, the Blackhawks started off the scoring with a first period goal from the Captain Jonathan Toews.  Only a few minutes later, the Red Wings tied the score up, ending the first period.  Late in the second period, Detroit took the lead.  Toews came back to tie the score once again with his goal half way through the third period.  Toew’s goal sent the game into Over Time.  Unfortunately, the Red Wings put the winning goal in after about five minutes of play.  The game ended, 3-2.

Considering some of the shots the Red Wings took, their score should have been much higher.  Luckily for the Blackhawks, Nikolai Khabibulin is a great goaltender.  Khabibulin finished the game with a toal of 35 saves.

The Chicago Blackhawks will return home to play the Detroit Red Wings this Friday, May 22 at 7:00 Central Time.
