What an intense game! Martin Havlat was definitely the savior for the Chicago Blackhawks, putting two goals in. One to tie the game and send it into Over Time, and another to defeat the Calgary Flames in Over Time. Three more games and the Blackhawks will advance onto the second round of the playoffs.
The Flames put the first goal past Nikolai Khabibulin in the first period. They maintained the lead until half way through the second period when defensive-man Cam Barker tied up the game. Early in the third period, Calgary added another one to their score, giving them the lead once again. It wasn't looking too good for Chicago until the 14th minute when Martin Havlat tied the game up again. Havlat's goal, assisted by Barker, sent the game into Over Time. Then, only 14 seconds into Over Time, Martin Havlat scored again. This time for the win.
Between the Flame's goalie and Nikolai Khabibulin, scoring was kept to a minimum this game. However, that did not mean it was a boring game. Far from that. Khabibulin saved 23 shots and the Flame's goalie had 25. So, the game was filled with a ton of action and a lot of unsuccessful attempts.
The Chicago Blackhawks will play the Calgary Flames for their second game this Saturday, April 18 at 8:00 Central Time.
