Chicago Cubs Get Off to a Good Start with Win Against Houston Astros

Written by: EricC on 6th April 2009

After getting a taste of the post season last year, the Chicago Cubs are back and ready to take more.  They put runs up very quick against the Houston Astros.  In fact, their first two runs were off of homers.  Looking at the lineup the Cubs have this year, hopes are high that they are going to do well.

The Cubs started the scoring in the first inning with a homerun from Alfonso Soriano.  Then in the second inning, Aramis Ramirez hit a homer to add a second run for the Cubs.  In the fourth inning, Ryan Theriot popped up a sacrafice out, which brought in Mike Fontenot.  The game remained relatively quiet until the seventh inning when the Astros put a run on the board.  In the ninth inning, Mike Fontenot scored again off a single from Micah Hoffpauir.  Houston managed to put up one more run, but it wasn't enough.

On the mound, Carlos Zambrano pitched two-thirds of the game; during that time he only gave up five hits and one run while striking out six batters.  Carlos Marmol pitched a scoreless inning while Kevin Gregg gave up the final run for the Astros.

The Chicago Cubs will take on the Houston Astros again Tuesday, April 7 at 7:05 Central Time.
