Chicago Blackhawks Continue Winning Streak

Written by: EricC on 7th April 2009

Tuesday nights 4-2 win against the Nashville Predators allowed the Chicago Blackhawks to bring their winning streak up to four games.  It also guaranteed them the fourth spot in the Western Conference.  If not for the Division Leaders getting the top 3 spots, Chicago would have been up in the 3rd spot.  The Blackhawk's first round competition still remains a toss up between the Vancouver Canucks and the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Predators took the lead with a goal in the first period.  The second period was dominated by three Chicago goals.  Within the first minute of the period, Jonathan Toews and Dustin Byfuglien each put a goal in the back of the net.  Patrick Kane added another about half way through the period.  Nashville made it a one point game early in the third period, but with less than a minute to go, Martin Havlat secured the win for the Blackhawks.  Havlat has a tendency to make those late-in-the-game goals.

The Blackhawk's defense held the Predators to 24 shots the whole game.  This made things a little easier on Nikolai Khabibulin, who saved 22 of those shots.  Khabibulin is going to be a key player for Chicago once they enter the playoffs.

The Chicago Blackhawks will play their next game against the Columbus Blue Jackets this Wednesday, April 8 at 7:30 Central Time.  This may possibly be a preview of the Blackhawk's first round game.
