Chicago Blackhawks Advance to the 2nd Round of the NHL Playoffs

Written by: EricC on 28th April 2009

The Chicago Blackhawks have done it!  They managed to beat the Calgary Flames 4-1, giving them their fourth win of the playoffs and a ticket into the second round.  The Blackhawks owe a lot of this final win to their star goalie, Nikolai Khabibulin.  Now the Chicago Blackhawks must face the Vancouver Canucks in the second round.

Chicago dominated the ice for the entire game.  Patrick Kane put in the Blackhawks first goal within the first three minutes of gameplay.  Only a few minutes later, Adam Burish put in Chicago's second goal of the game.  In the final five minutes of the second period, Blachhawk's player Brian Campbell made the game 3-0.  In the first minute of the third period, the Flames added their first, and only, goal of the game.  It wasn't enough to save Calgary.  Dustin Byfuglien added one more goal into an empty net during the final seconds of the game.

The entire Blackhawk's team did a great job in this final game against the Flames, but the real star of the game was goalie Nikolai Khabibulin who managed to save 43 shots!  Of the 44 shots that were taken on him, he only managed to let one go by, as opposed to Calgary's goalie, who only had 15 shots taken on him, but let three go by.

The second round schedule will be released within the next couple of days.  Until then, the Chicago Blackhawks rest up as they wait for their next series against the Vancouver Canucks.
