Cubs Beat the Oakland Athletics, 6-4, Soriano and Ramirez Hit First Spring Homeruns

Written by: EricC on 3rd March 2009

Today's game between the Chicago Cubs and Oakland Athletics got off to a great start with Alfonso Soriano knocking his first pitch out of the park, giving him his first home run for the Spring season.  In the third inning, Jake Fox completed his second home run for spring, bringing in two runs.  Then in the fourth inning, Aramis Ramirez also added his first home run for spring; however, his hit brought in three runs.  The final score was Chicago Cubs 6, Oakland Athletics 4.

Sean Marshall had a great day with three hitless innings.  Kevin Gregg also had success, only giving up one hit in his single inning on the mound.  Andrew Cashner, unfortunately, did not have as good a day as Marshall and Cashner.  He gave up two runs, three hits, and a walk before being pulled out of his first inning.  However, the Cub's fielders did a good enough job to hold off the Athletics.

The Cubs record for Spring Training now stands at 5-2.  Not too bad, considering one of their losses came from a team that was undefeated until today: the Arizona Diamondbacks.  The Cubs play again tomorrow, with half the team taking on the Cleveland Indians and the other half going up against the Chicago White Sox again.
