Blackhawks Welcome Back Patrick Sharp for Win Against Los Angeles Kings

Written by: EricC on 23rd March 2009

Back after missing 16 games due to a leg injury, Patrick Sharp sank two goals into the back of the opponent's net.  After losing their last five games, the Chicago Blackhawks put up a nice 4-1 win against the Los Angeles Kings.  The win was enough to give Chicago a secure hold on the 4th position in the Western Conference and put them one point behind the Calgary Flames.

The first period's only goal came from Patrick Sharp, setting the Blackhawks on the course to victory.  In the second period, Martin Havlat had the only goal, giving Chicago a 2-0 lead over the Kings.  Nearly 17 minutes into the third period Los Angeles finally put a shot past Nikolai Khabibulin, forcing a little pressure on Chicago.  However, Sharp handled the pressure and with 1:06 left in the game, he answered back with another goal.  It looked like the final score was going to end 3-1 until Havlat added his second goal with less than 20 seconds left on the clock.  Now that's the Blackhawks we've been waiting for the last couple of weeks.

Since returning from his injury about a week and a half ago, Nikolai Khabibulin has not had great success in the net.  Tonight he was able to bring back some of that glory with his nearly flawless performance.  Of course, it's not as difficult when you're defense can hold the opponent to 15 shots all game, but none the less, Khabibulin played a great game in the net.

The Blackhawks will play their next game against the San Jose Sharks this Wednesday, March 25 at 7:30 Central Time.  This may be a tough game for the Blackhawks, considering the Sharks are ranked first in the Western Conference and have already clinched the division.  Let's go Chicago Blackhawks!!
