The Chicago team's rivalry made its debut today at HoHoKam Park, in Arizona, for their Spring Training match up. The Cubs scored 13 runs and managed to shut out the Sox, with much help from Cubs debut pitcher, Aaron Heilman. During the two innings he was in, Heilman gave up one hit and struck out four of the seven batters he faced, and the one hit the Sox got off of him ended in a one-out single. Being that this was his first chance to really show his skills, I would say he made a pretty good impression. Pinella even commented that there is a chance that Heilman could be a starter; at this point, any of the pitchers could be one of the five starters, depending on how well they play during Spring Training.
Brad Synder added to the Cubs onslaught, throwing up a grand slam during the seventh, ending the inning with nine runs.
Hopefully we will be seeing a lot more Heilman and a lot more Cubbie wins! Today's shut out not only looks good for this year, but especially for the Crosstown Classics to come this season.
The Cubs play the San Diego Padres tomorrow in Peoria.
